Historic preservation zoning sought for Phoenix's 1920 Temple Beth Israel

[Source: Barbara Stocklin, City of Phoenix] -- The City of Phoenix Historic Preservation (HP) Commission held a public hearing to consider HP zoning for the property located at the northwest corner of 2nd and Culver Streets. This property was built in 1921 as Temple Beth Israel, the first Jewish temple in Phoenix; in 1950 it became the First Chinese Baptist Church. The historic designation was requested by the property owner, the Arizona Jewish Historical Society (AJHS). The HP Commission unanimously recommended approval of the HP zoning application.
